Liow: MCA will not cooperate with PAS

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will not cooperate with PAS despite opting to remain in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, said party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

"I have announced previously that MCA will not work with PAS. DAP worked with them during Semangat 46, and later in Selangor and in the Penang state government.

"We have always been firm, we will not work with PAS and there will be no alliance with them," he told the media after the Annual Convention of MCA Wilayah Persekutuan, here today.

He warned that should other component parties go ahead to form an alliance with PAS, then BN will "cease to exist".

"What is important is the spirit of BN. It is a moderate, harmonious and inclusive party. We hold to this and going against this means there will be a break in BN," he said.

When asked if MCA would leave BN should Umno form an alliance with PAS, he said that there is no going in and out, as BN would simply dissolve.

"There is no going in and out of BN. It either exist or ceases to exist. Umno, MCA and MIC were the founding blocks of BN, if there is no Umno, MCA and MIC, then there is no BN either," he said.

Liow said he does not know what is the basis of the cooperation between Umno and PAS.

"It depends on the corporation between Umno and PAS. We don't know what is the basis of the corporation. We cannot go into race and religious extremism. We cannot go along that path. That is not the path of MCA."....
